When my husband was in Brazil, I sent him an Easter package with plastic eggs, candy and little notes. While this is a classic for missionary packages, I recently came across a fresh take on the idea and thought I’d share it. It’s similar to the 12 Days of Christmas: each day, your missionary will get to open a plastic egg containing a scripture and an object. The messages tell, chronologically, of the events of the crucifixion and resurrection.

This is a great idea–clever, spiritual, thought-provoking…not to mention inexpensive and easy to ship!

Holiday-themed packages are among the easiest, and the month of March is no different. A few weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, send your missionary a package full of gold chocolate coins and rainbow skittles. This simple gift will delight the recipient, and requires very little effort on the part of the sender.

St. Patrick's Day Breakfast

Whether your missionary is serving in the next county or a separate continent, breakfast cereal is one food that can definitely make the trip. For St. Patrick’s Day, you can’t miss with Lucky Charms — every kid knows this is one of the special cereals that only surfaced at Grandma’s house. They’ll love it. You can send a regular-sized box, or a couple single-serving packs. Be sure to include some green plastic bowls and spoons!

Fruit snacks are another treat that can survive a long trip overseas if necessary, and there is nothing cooler than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when it comes to snacks for boys. This is inexpensive and very fun — definitely a winner this St. Patrick’s Day!

Get creative with your Valentines this year. There are so many options available that are a little more artistic than your average greeting card. You can buy online at www.papercrave.com, or use the photos as inspiration for your own creation! Your missionary will appreciate the extra effort.

All you need is a post-it pad and pen, and you’ve got another Valentine’s Day treat that is inxepensive and simple. This idea can be used all year round with different paper designs and shapes, but it’s particularly perfect for February: a sticky-note heart attack is just what the love doctor ordered! Fill each sheet of the pad with a sweet message, leaving the top for the following instruction: “As you pull off each sheet, stick it to the wall!”

Get Creative!

A Simple Necklace Will Make Her Day!

Some Valentine’s Day gifts may seem a little obvious, but receiving a thoughtful present from a loved one is never cliche. An inexpensive heart pendant necklace is all it takes to make it Valentine’s Day all February long, and if the necklace is simple, she can wear it throughout her mission.
